What you learn

Because the World Game is administered non-verbally, it brings things to light that regular tests and conversations miss. While building a village, a child unconsciously signals their cognitive capacities, wellbeing and preferred way of processing information. It proves effective time and again with non-speaking children, language problems and children with a fear of failure.

Within a few minutes you gain non-verbal insight into:

  • The cognitive aspect (intelligence): how the child explores the world around them
  • The affective aspect (social and emotional): how the child experiences their world
  • The pedagogical aspect (learning strategies): how the child handles their world
  • Giftedness: how the child processes knowledge and new information

An observation list for giftedness, developed with Johnnie Rasmussen and Grith Tschorn (Gifted Institute DK) and professor Evelyn Kroesbergen (Radboud University), supports the non-verbal identification of cognitive abilities where regular IQ tests cannot be used because of communication or cultural barriers.

The three days

The international format is shown below. In the Netherlands the training runs as three module days (Signaling, Cognition, Intervision), with practice in your own setting in between.

  1. Day 1 · Theory and signaling

The theory and scientific background of the World Game. Identifying social-emotional aspects and learning strategies (visual and verbal thinking). You build your own village to experience the material, and learn to observe and fill in the forms.

  2. Day 2 · Practice with children

A practical day: you test and observe several pupils building with the World Game, then analyse their villages and learn to see what they tell you.

  3. Day 3 · Cognition and giftedness

Identifying cognitive abilities in the World Game, and giftedness with the observation list. Evaluation and certification.
